                                               OH SAD WORLD

                                Dripping faucet

                                Crickets chirping

My sleeping sister is lightly snoring.

                                A crackling fire

                                The clock ticking

All's well in the darkness of my morning.

                                The television on

                                The newscaster speaking

There has just been a horrible murder.

                                Head in my hands

                                My pleasant heart broken

I now weep fervently for a stranger.

                                Oh sad world,

                                What has happened to you?

No one can afford to trust now.

                                No one can dare to.

                                A missing child

                                The parents weeping

Much too often they are crocodile tears.

                                Children with guns

                                Uncontrolled anger

That school day will be remembered for years.

                                 Laughter outside

                                 Two figures midnight strolling

Their plans may be helter and skelter.

                                 A traveler in trouble

                                 A knock after dark

There is too much fear to offer shelter.

                                 Oh sad world,

                                 What has happened to you?

No one can afford to trust now.

                                 No one can dare to.
